Twelve Terrific Ingredients In Asian Cooking

There are many different types of ingredients used in the Asian food. If you start counting them, then it will take you weeks to count them all. Some ingredients are spread all over the Asia, while some are only confined to a specific region. So, if you are in Japan, then you will certainly going to have a different set of flavors and while you move across to the west, you will experience a whole new variety of flavors. This transition would be slow, but you will be able to make out the difference. I’m going to present to you, some of the most phenomenal ingredients that are used in the entire Asian region. Lemongrass: It is a perennial and a lemon scented plant in which the outer portion of the plant is discarded and the bottom part is only used, which is a white stem.

Candlenut: It is a round shaped and cream colored seed that has a beautiful fragrance and is used to thicken the gravy of the curry dishes.

Shrimp Paste: It is made by fermenting shrimps and salt into a paste, which has a delicate flavor. You can stir it together with chili and other spices in a nonstick wok set.

Star Anise: It is a star shaped seed that has eight points with a light and sweet flavor. This particular ingredient is often used in curry cuisine due to its rich flavors.

Top Asian ingredients

      Galangal: This is not as spicy as other ingredients and it also has a light fragrance. People usually measure it with thumb and put it in the soups and curries.

      Curry leaves: These are the green leaves that are quite aromatic, but bitter in taste. People put the whole leaves when preparing a dish just to enhance the flavors of the dish.

      Coriander Powder: This is one of the most prominent ingredients that has a great aromatic taste. It is used specifically when cooking meat, seafood or vegetables.

      Salam Leaves: You will find it a lot in the Indonesian kitchens, as people put it in rice and curries to enhance the flavors.

Cumin: This is a small seed that has  bitter pungence

Turmeric: It is used to add beautiful yellow color in dishes like Biryani and curries.

Assam Peel: It is made from sliced tamarind, which is in dried form. It has a sour flavor and can be added directly into the dishes.

Assam Paste: This ingredient is very popular for sour dishes. You can add water to extract the tamarind juice.
